Description

This article reports on the possibility of the fabrication of conductive PEDOT (3,4 poly ethylene dioxythiophene) nanofibers through electrospinning. Electrospinning of pure PEDOT nanofibers from its solution has not yet become possible. Also in this work, the efforts to electrospin pure PEDOT or pure EDOT nanofibers proved fruitless. Hence, poly(acrylic acid) (PAA)was employed to assist the electrospinning of EDOT. EDOT:PAA nanofibers were collected in an oxidation bath, where in-situ polymerization of EDOT into PEDOT occurred. After a series of experiments, PEDOT/PAA (50:50) and PEDOT/PAA (67:33) nanofibers were successfully fabricated. The lowest average diameter of the PEDOT/PAA nanofibers was around 300 nm. An electrical conductivity of 0.16 S/cm was recorded for the PEDOT/PAA (50:50) nanofibrous web which is a considerable improvement over similar products reported in the literature.

Description

The extensive use of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in consumer and medical products leads inevitably to release of such particles into environment and soil resources. This study was conducted to provide evidences for biological effects of AgNPs in two calcareous soils with different textures and salinity levels. Basal respiration (BR) and substrate-induced respiration (SIR), as indicators of soil microbial activity and biomass, respectively, were determined in the calcareous soils spiked with a dilution series of AgNPs and AgNO3. Urease and alkaline phosphatase activities were also measured in the spiked and control soils. Finally, dose–response approach was used to model the sensitivity of the soil biological properties to AgNPs and AgNO3 contamination. The results revealed that the effects of AgNPs and AgNO3 on the soil respiration and enzyme activities depended on Ag dose and soil type. For instance,

Description

In this research, watermelon, cherry and carrot juices were utilized not only as green reductant, but also as green capping agent for preparation CuI nanostructures for the first time. Watermelon, cherry and carrot juices were applied as green reductant because of the presence of lycopene, beta-carotene and anthocyanin molecules in their components. Besides watermelon, cherry and carrot juices, Cu(NO3)2·3H2O and LiI were utilized as copper and iodide precursors for the preparation of CuI nanostructures via a simple, low cost, fast and efficient precipitation approach at ambient situations. By utilizing various amounts of watermelon, cherry and carrot juices, various morphologies of CuI have been gotten. The as-synthesized nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, Energy Dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), Transmission electron microscopy

Description

The rapid production and application of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have led to significant release of AgNPs into the terrestrial environments. Once released into the soil, AgNPs could enter into different interactions with soil particles which play key roles in controlling the fate and transport of these nanoparticles. In spite of that, experimental studies on the retention of AgNPs in soils are very scarce. Hence, the key objective of this research was to find out the retention behavior of AgNPs and Ag(I) ions in a range of calcareous soils. A second objective was to determine the extent to which the physico-chemical properties of the soils influence the Ag retention parameters. To this end, isothermal batch experiments were used to determine the retention of Poly(vinylpyrrolidinone)-capped AgNPs (PVP-AgNPs) and Ag(I) ions by nine calcareous soils with a diversity of physico-chemical properties.
